ALL IN “LOURDES” – the film before the reality
“Overcoming within us the temptation of indifference”
The 21st September 2019 started with a fraternal prayer in Notre-Dame des Champs. Led by Etienne Villemain, co-founder of Fratello, Laurent Landete and Father Bourgoin, priest of the Parisian parish of Notre Dame des Champs, who welcomed us, we were invited to “overcome within ourselves the temptation of indifference”. At the end of this prayer we were given two rosaries: one for oneself and one to give.
With these exhortations in mind, we headed to the cinema to attend the film “Lourdes” for an electroshock of humanity.
At the beginning of the film, the attention was palpable: we were not to lose a second of this documentary. And then began 91 minutes of touching images, of pained and moving faces, amidst the whispered prayers and the Ave Maria. 91 minutes to show that in Lourdes, the poor, the neglected, the sick is at the centre. 91 minutes made by Thierry Demaizière and Alban Teurlai, respectively agnostic and atheist but deeply touched by what they had seen in Lourdes. “We had the intuition that Lourdes must be a melting pot of humanity and that something a little crazy about the human condition must be happening there.
When the lights turned back on, the eyes were full of tears and there was not a sound. Sixtine Léon-Dufour, author of the film, took the floor to tell us about the genesis and continuation of the project. She gave us news of the witnesses she met in the film, as if they were already old friends. What a joy to see the fraternal fabric that had been created since the screening and success of the film!
This “melting pot of humanity”, we will soon be there – less than fifty days! This film confirmed to us that Fratello has its place in Lourdes, and it is probably not for nothing that they chose the theme:
“Blessed are the poor, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs” (Lk 6:20)
Get ready Lourdes, we’re coming !
